New wool

So the postman delivered the wool! Very exciting except that it advertised it on the website as suitable for warp but when you pull it, it snaps.

I need to now find some wool to make the warp that is an equal thickness. Bit of a delay but hopefully will find something soon!

Very pleased with the colours though!

  1. I think the yarn might be suitable for warp all the same. I've woven quite a lot with thin wool as warp, either 14/2 or 20/2 and I never had any problems with breaking warp threads, also it was very easy to snap the yarn by pulling.

  2. Thanks for your comment, Charlotte. I thought pulling the yarn was a fail-safe test but I've never really tried to prove myself wrong on that front! I shall have a go and see what happens.

  3. I agree. I've woven with lots of yarns that break when pulled individually, but have had no problems with the warp. Strength in numbers, I guess.

I can hardly wait to see what you are going to make - I love the colors!

  4. I've woven with wool yarn that I can snap, it can be o.k. to weave with, so long as you don't pull the tension very tight. The worst trouble I've had is yarns with weak spots that snap when the reed rubs them, but beating gently helps.
